New show on WSMN 1590 : Art in Action!

Last week was the first broadcast of the new feature on WSMN 1590AM's Morning Liftoff show. Morning Liftoff airs from 6-10AM Monday - Friday and is hosted by five-time Golden Mike Award winner George Russell. The Art In Action feature is on every Tuesday from 9:30 - 10:00AM.

Last weeks guest was John Weidman of the Andres Institute of Art in Brookline, NH. Topics discussed were the sculpture he created which was installed at the roundabout on the South end of Main Street near Rivier College. It is one of five which was created in the inaugural year of the Nashua International Sculpture Symposium.

This weeks guest was Robin Clarke who is an instructor at Daniel Webster College, the Vice President of For The Artist, and volunteer for The Andres Institute of Art and The Nashua International Sculpture Symposium.

We spoke about her class which will be starting in January of 2009 and the impact her students will be able to bring to this community with regard to Public Art. She also spoke about her experience hosting artists for the past six years with the Andres Institute and who have created sculptures for display in New Hampshire.

Next week will be another excerpt in Nashua's art explosion which has begun this year and is sure to ignite more within the Greater Nashua community. Don't miss it, tune in next week!

Nashua History makes it on WSMN News, Again!

I was interviewed by Woody Woodland some time ago, you can read about it here in another post.. but this time on WSMN, I am actually ON WSMN. Today, being my third time on the airwaves and the fifth time I've been in the broadcasting room, was a thrilling and fantastic event I believe I had been blessed to experience.

Today, The host George Russell and I talked a little about www.nashuahistory.com and how the site makes use of the World-Wide-Web to display all of our Mayors, all the way back to 1853. Nashua History was not the main focus of the show as was the first time I was on with Woody.. but I do think there is a place for me to talk about Nashua history and also the arts in Nashua to which I am also highly involved.

Currently, I am scheduled again for this Friday - as a back-up co-host to the normal co-host Jodie Callinan. The show is a News, Sports and Talk show -- and I'm doing very well according to all of the people I've talked to who have heard me live!

My Current Role in Nashua, 7-17-08

This was a letter I sent to Key Associates to City Arts Nashua as the newly appointed Executive Board Director and Directing Editor for the City Arts Nashua (CAN) Newsletter:

My Fellow Nashua Art Enthusiasts,

I am writing to you today to introduce/reintroduce myself and also to let all of you know the role I currently play in the Nashua art community.

I am a Nashua native I have been a practicing artist for over thirty years. I became active in Nashua’s cultural realm upon my self-initiated creation of Nashua’s first website dedicated to Nashua history (www.nashuahistory.com) in 2002. This website brought me wonderful recognition throughout the community and also spurred a photo/history book which was published by Arcadia Publishing in 2005 entitled ‘Nashua Then & Now’.

A little over six months ago, City Arts Nashua began courting me to work with them on several projects and it became evident to me as they broadened my arts and cultural vision that I should join with them. I became a Board member in April of 2008 and when the position for Secretary became available in May, I was elected and now serve on the Executive Board as well. In addition to my Board responsibilities, I am also the Directing Editor for the CAN Newsletter.

I am especially writing to you today to ask that you forward all your upcoming arts related news, PR and events schedules to me for CAN newsletters and the Nashua History Archive. I will try my best to publish any current & relevant news from your organization in the newsletters which are currently published on an as-needed basis. Do not feel like you are over-whelming me with your submissions .. too much is never enough! I may just grab a line from something, or store it for later depending on how much space is available -- but all is appreciated as CAN is dedicated to promote Nashua Arts as much as possible and Nashua History has a vast archive for the benefit of all future historians. Include any PR you would normally send to the papers, ie: new directors in your organizations, new players, pictures, upcoming events and anything else you would like to be documented. If it is not published right away, I’ll keep it on file for potential future use.

Where have I been?

It's been faaaar too long since the last time I wrote anything to post here. I have been quite active in Nashua affairs however not as active in chronicling them.

Maybe nothing has excited me enough, or I've been far too busy with life's curve-balls but either way I finally broke through the brick wall and want to share a few of the most exciting events which I have been involved.. The most recent is the reason I am writing today; I have been inspired by an introduction and new relationship with a certain someone who is making a real debut throughout Nashua! His name is George Russell and I was introduced to him by Mary Goyette.
